What Does It Mean To Worship In Spirit And In Truth?

Finding Our Way to Authentic Worship

There are things in life we hold in very high regard.  We spend the most time on or with them, we think about them, we make vision boards about them, and we learn them inside and out.  When we were teens, we may have even decked out our rooms with posters about them. These things or people are celebrities, popular brands, and even our own ideas or business plans.

However, we rarely have an actual relationship with the said person or thing, and when we do, it’s rarely reciprocal.

This week, we’re turning our focus to worshipping what is real.

In John 4:21-26, Jesus had a discussion with the Samaritan woman. She mentioned and admitted that her people were worshippers, but Jesus helped her recognize they weren’t worshipping from a place of authentic relationship with him.  She didn’t realize the truth until later, that the Messiah, who could transform her life was real and right before her eyes!

This week, let’s try authentic Worship.  That’s the act of realizing that God is always with us and embracing his presence. This may mean bowing down in prayer, singing to God, or thanking him for what is good in every daily task.

Our week will be lighter and easier when we make this small sacrifice. When we adore God for being right here with us, we can be confident that his peace and direction are also here.

The woman said, ‘I know that Messiah (called Christ) is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.’ Then Jesus declared, ‘I, the one speaking to you—I am he.’”  (John 4:25-26 NIV)

Spiritual Growth Challenge

This week, we challenge you to look for God in the activities or roles he has assigned you to do.  This may be a job he’s given you, parenting, your marriage, or as a volunteer. Then, write these areas down, and begin to worship God for showing up and being a living and present help for you in these roles.
