Have you ever indulged in a good ole teaspoon of pure sugar? Who would ever? Perhaps to a child it sounds good, but as adults we know better. If we had to choose a teaspoon of any sweetener, our mature taste buds and knowledge of health properties would properly lead us to honey. Honey is universally known as a natural form of sweet goodness. No wonder the Bible compares so many of life’s gems to it.
Exodus 3:8 calls the Promised Land a land of milk and honey; a place of inheritance.
Psalm 19:9-10 says that God’s laws and judgments are like honey; and Proverbs 16:24 tells us that gracious words are like honey.
This week, let’s focus on being sweet with gracious words. Since gracious words are like honey, we can add sweetness to a sour situation. It means God has given us the ability to “grace someone” into a sweeter mood and a healthier existence.
SPIRITUAL GROWTH CHALLENGE:
Everyone likes kind words, and to be honest, we need them. This week, pray for an opportunity to show love by offering a gracious word to a stranger. For example, if you dine out this week, tell your server their service was top-notch, and follow it with a nice tip. God will surely provide the encouragement you need at just the right time when you sow seeds like this.
“Give, and it will be given to you…” (Luke 6:38 NIV)
