Walking With God and Exercises to Warm The Spirit

Date

Have you ever said to yourself, ‘Yes, this is the day! I’m going to walk with God and follow the Holy Spirit every day going forward. I’m going to stay ready to bless everyone who comes my way, and I’m going to up my prayer game’? Then, the busyness of your job, kids, and schedule got in the way of your dream to elevate your connection with God.

I call this Dream Weaving. It’s when we paint a picture in our heads of ways our lives can improve without implementing practical ways to do it.

We’ve all been guilty of fantasy Christianity. However, it’s a new day and a new opportunity awaits!

I want to challenge you to implement some small changes to condition your spirit for a closer walk with God.

Here are a few ideas to try this week:

1. Create a YouTube playlist of gospel/Christian songs from your favorite genre. (Ex: ‘Gospel Hip Hop’, ‘EDM Christian Songs’). Break your normal routine, and listen to your new playlist as you get ready for the day each morning.

Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!” (Psalm 32:11 NIV)

2.  Go to bed 15 minutes earlier, and wake up 15 minutes earlier than usual to pray. Then, journal about it. (i.e. ‘Today, I woke up 15 minutes earlier to pray, and I feel…)

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” (Mark 1:35 NIV)

3.  Use an uplifting Bible verse, and write a letter to encourage your 15-year-old self with it.

The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.” (Psalm 19:8 NIV)

Starting a new spiritual habit can be a milestone of faith for you.  If one of these ideas resonates more than the other, start there.  Spending time with God is a step towards consistency …the key to a more solid relationship with God and a future you can get excited about!
