Prepare The Way Of The Lord

Date

What God says about preparing for a blessing.

Last summer, I told my son that if he could keep his room clean, he could have the shelves he wanted to keep the room organized.  Ironic, huh?  Organizing before getting what’s needed for ‘the great organization.’

But when we examine Luke 3, we see that it’s necessary to prepare for great things.

John the Baptist’s greatest assignment was to call others to the task of preparation. “Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.(Luke 3:4 NIV)

He helped his followers prepare their spirits for Jesus’ glorious ministry through preaching and baptizing. Then, he encouraged them to stay engaged by propelling them to do good works instead of hiding under a rock while waiting for Jesus to come (verses 7-11).

Preparation is an easy concept to grasp when we are expecting greatness.  It can even be a demonstration of our faith.

When we trust God enough to leave things behind that are taking his place and get busy doing good works, we put ourselves in the perfect position to experience his great wonders and welcome his presence.

How to get ready for your blessing.

Spiritual Growth Challenge

This week, we challenge you to start preparing as if you are expecting God to be good to you.

Pray about it, and write down what needs to be cleared from your life. Strike a line through it, and add a short list of something God wants you to do for someone else.  With patience and faith, you will inherit what God has promised you. (Hebrews 6:12)
