Everything That Glitters Isn’t Gold: Test Everything

How to Get Wisdom From God

“A burger with Tostitos, queso, and salsa,” my son exclaimed, “Ooooh!”  He was repeating a commercial he saw on TV.  I quickly reminded him of one dilemma; however.  He doesn’t like salsa.  At all.

Oh, how quickly he bought into the idea.  An instant reminder that we need to be careful what we buy into…no matter how good it sounds. No matter how good it looks.

The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.” (Proverbs 14:15 ESV)

This week, God wants us to think about what’s really good for us. We can do this by meditating on his Word, so that we know exactly what to look for.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2 ESV)

But test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.” (1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 ESV)

Spiritual Growth Challenge

Here are some questions to help us put these scriptures into practice:

  1. What will I study in the Bible this week to make sure my mind stays renewed? Grab a notebook and write down a 5-day, doable Bible study plan for yourself.
  2. What podcast or show am I looking forward to this week, and how am I planning to test whether or not it will be a good thing for me to watch or listen to? Jot your method down in the notebook.
