Elevated Love: How to Love Others Like Jesus

Date

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” (Phil 2:3 NIV)

Being confident in who God made you is a prerequisite for loving on a level like Jesus.

For example, when you serve your spouse a plate of food, you know in your soul that this sacrificial act doesn’t change who you are.

Right before Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, we can see Jesus’ confidence shining bright.

The Bible says,’[Jesus] knew that the Father had put all things under his power, that he had come from God, and [he] was returning to God.’ (John 13:3 NIV).

It was this confidence that secured Jesus in his role as an humble servant.

When Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, he was demonstrating a new level of love. This was the first time he taught it to them, and he commands us to love each other like this going forward.

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34 NIV)
