How to be a Good Steward and
Make Your Week Count Before It Starts

What does it mean to be a good steward?

God wants us to have an awesome week, but to live the abundant life he has planned for us, we have to learn how to use time in the best way possible. Time is not ours to do whatever we want with; it’s God’s.

Being a good steward in this context means knowing how to manage the time that God gave you to do the things you need to do. This includes your needs, responsibilities, and desires.

Powerful Bible Verses about Time Management

• Be Intentional : Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:15-16 NIV)

• Spend Time Wisely : Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. (Psalm 90:12 NIV)

• Honor God With It : Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (Colossians 323-24 NIV)

• Know What Season It Is : There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. (Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV)

• Be Flexible : Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. (James 4:13-14 NIV)

• Plan Ahead: Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. (Proverbs 6:6-8 NIV)

Here’s our recommendation of
ways to practice good stewardship…

  1. Start the week spiritually strong. Choose a Christian devotional or follow a Bible reading plan. Pray and spend a moment in worship with a song.  Connecting with God is a chance to renew your hope and seek God for his guidance.
  2. Spend time to plan ahead. A few moments a day to plan helps you start the day without procrastination.   When you start your day with a plan, you can feel more confident about what’s ahead.
  3. Manage your priorities. Knowing what’s on your plate is essential to being responsible, not living in regret, and achieving a healthy balance.
