The first seven years of marriage, I was barren.
Then, one day, I read this: “You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” (John 14:14 NIV)
That time reading it, I felt a spark. It was my faith activating, so much so, that I would tell others what the Lord was going to do for us: give us a baby.
Some thought I was naive. They said, consider the last seven years, and just be content. However, I was sure, without a shadow of a doubt, that John 14:14 was my “but God scripture.” God had led me right to it, and I refused to let it go.
Is there a promise that God has given you? It’s okay to state how you feel presently, but don’t talk about it without adding your “but, God…” statement.
Here are some other scriptures to stir up your confidence:
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalm 73:26 NIV)
“When they had carried out all that was written about him, they took him down from the cross and laid him in a tomb. But God raised him from the dead.” (Acts 13:29-30 NIV)
“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” (Genesis 50:20 NIV)
What have you been worried about lately? Don’t just sit there and let the enemy have a heyday. There is a “but God” for you.
If you have a promise from God, say it every day this week like you believe it. If you don’t have it yet, take time to explore prayer with God this week, and ask him to show you examples of what you believe him for in his Word. He will do it for you too.
