Last night, our family watched a movie that starred Denzel Washington. At the height of the movie, my son nudged me and whispered, “Isn’t that Steve Cosby?” He must have meant Bill Cosby.
Giggles.
My son hadn’t seen or heard much of the two actors. He’s heard their names before, but he doesn’t really know them.
Sometimes, we are unsure if the God of the Bible is the same God we thought we knew when his commandments catch us by surprise.
These are perfect moments to reflect on how closely we know and follow God.
“The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 2:14 NIV)
No matter how we feel at the moment, it can be easy to both know and follow God. It’s a matter of having His Spirit within us.
Here are three things we can do to be sure we are following God through the leading of his Spirit.
- Start basic. Pray for God to fill/refill you with his Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18)
- Embrace God’s presence during daily tasks. (Galatians 5:25)
- When you are unsure about a decision, double-check with God’s Word. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
As you do these things, look forward to an amazing week full of confidence and clarity!
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.” (John 10:27-28 NIV)
