Ready For Work

Date

For most of us, the start of a new week means work.  So much so, that the days Monday through Friday have been coined “Working Days.”

We can’t avoid it.  If we did, that would mean backed-up emails, loads of dirty laundry, and eventually, unpaid bills.   And the reality is that if we want to enjoy the benefits of a clean home and have the money to pay for the things we want and need, we must continue working.

Proverbs 14:23 says, “All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.” (NKJV)

Thank God, we all understand what it means to be responsible.

In starting our week, let’s also remember that there’s another type of work.  It is the type of work that builds more secure earnings than our direct deposits.  These are called Good Works.  What makes them so good?  They build treasures that last.

They are sharing the gospel with family and neighbors, giving to others in need, flowing with what God is doing in someone else’s life, and contributing to it. These deeds don’t add more zeros to our bank accounts, but they build up treasures in heaven.

No one has access to these treasures.  So there’s no need to worry about securing these treasures in case of a recession.  They just stay there, waiting for us to enjoy them.

So as we gear up for work this week, let’s also focus on God’s promise to us.  As a believer in Jesus, we are heaven-bound, and the heavenly treasures we build up through good works, are far more valuable than any 401K match.

“Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.” 1 Timothy 6:18-19 NKJV
