Look Deeper

Mercy and Compassion

Have you ever looked up to someone who disappointed you?  It stings.  Yet, somehow, God asks us to forgive them and show compassion.

It’s not a difficult thing to do when we think about ourselves.  We’ve all been recipients of mercy with friends who know us well.  After we’ve made mistakes, somehow, our friends were able to look deeper into the “why” of our situation.  They didn’t judge us or cancel us, but they helped us realize where we went wrong and rooted for our success.

Then there’s God.  He is even more merciful than friends.

He has this superhero-like ability to look deeper into our lives as a whole before judging us.  Then, he offers simple solutions for our restoration and healing; providing what we need while addressing our sins at the same time.   We can see many instances of his compassion as he heals and helps people while telling them to “sin no more” in the Bible.

As we process disappointment, God wants us to show compassion. In fact, he has attached a reward for practicing this Godly habit.  “Blessed are the merciful; for they shall obtain mercy.” (Matthew 5:7 KJV)

This week, as we come across situations that offend, let’s practice looking deeper. Let’s pause for a moment to be merciful by praying for people and rooting for their healing, restoration, and salvation.

“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9 NIV)
