Standing On The Word of God: Scripture Memory for Every Season

Date

When I first joined my church, I asked a lady to pray for me, and she said she would.  Then, she asked me, “What scripture are we standing on?”

At first, I chuckled, but then I realized she was as serious as a cook on Thanksgiving.  After that, I quickly reconciled that I needed to back my faith up with something God was actually promising in His Word!

There are some scriptures I’ve committed to memory in my adulthood, and some my parents asked me to memorize growing up.  Even though the process of memorizing scripture wasn’t amusing either time, I knew I was doing something good for my future.

I was building a reserve for times I needed to recall how God feels and what he said to do when I’m discouraged, tempted, or too tired to read.

These are also scriptures that I use to meditate as I’m going through my day.  They aid me in prayer and help me to remember God’s promises for my life.

What are your Go-To scriptures?  What situation can you recall where God’s Word really came through for you?

Some of my personal favorites are Psalm 1 and Psalm 23!

Start this week by writing about how a particular scripture blessed you in the past.  Think about the scripture; say it out loud, and record how it impacted your life in a journal. I believe this scripture can still be applied to a situation you are dealing with today.

Use it as encouragement and keep memorizing more. God is still ready and willing to make his Word alive in your life.

Your word is a lamp for my feet,
    a light on my path
.” (Psalm 119:105 NIV)
